Find a licensed asbestos assessor

Asbestos was used in over 3000 building products before 1990. If you think you have found asbestos in your property, treat it like it is.

Before renovating or demolishing a property that may contain asbestos, talk to a licensed asbestos assessor. They can identify asbestos-containing materials and provide advice on removal.

When do I need to use a licensed asbestos assessor?

If your home or commercial building was built or renovated before 1990, it may contain asbestos.

You can’t tell whether a product contains asbestos by looking at it.

A licensed assessor can:

  • Inspect your property for asbestos materials and provide a report

  • Get samples tested

  • monitor the air for asbestos fibres

  • do clearance inspections after asbestos removal to check for contamination

  • issue clearance certificates for the removal of asbestos.

How do I find a licensed asbestos assessor?

SafeWork NSW publishes a list of licensed asbestos assessors.

How much does a licensed asbestos assessor cost?

The cost of an inspection depends on the size of the property.

A pre-purchased Asbestos Home Inspection by a licensed inspector is around $400.
