You can remove asbestos in your home yourself.  Even if you’re legally able to remove asbestos yourself, we recommend using a licenced asbestos removalist.

Asbestos removal is a health risk if you don’t know how to do it safely.

Tradespeople in your home must use a licenced asbestos removalist for removing:

  • over 10m2 of non-friable asbestos
  • any amount of friable asbestos.

A licensed asbestos removalist can remove asbestos safely. They will dispose of the asbestos in line with Safework, EPA and council regulations.

There are two different licences for asbestos removal in NSW:

  • Class A – licence to remove friable asbestos
  • Class B – licence to remove non-friable asbestos
