Our goals

The ultimate goal is to eliminate asbestos-related disease. This is long-term and visionary, but it is an important reminder of what the NACC is working towards for the NSW community.

The NACC has set ambitious and long-term goals for the management of asbestos and described a path to achieve them.  

NSW Government agencies, local councils, industry and other stakeholders have all contributed to the design of our goals, and already work to deliver the outcomes described in Figure 1.

Outcomes focus on changing behaviour

Behaviour changes are driven by:

  • Motivation to act

Outcomes apply to individual settings such as:

  • Workplaces
  • Waste
  • Residences
  • Emergency management
  • Public places
  • Aboriginal communities

Better health and wellbeing outcomes for people with asbestos-related disease in NSW

 

People with asbestos-related disease are living as well as they can

Quality of life outcomes

People with asbestos-related disease and their family, carers and support people: 

  • are able to navigate the care and support system with ease and dignity
  • have equitable access to the support, care and treatment they need.

Health professionals recognise asbestos-related disease early and respond and refer appropriately
