Mouldings and moulded products

Panels that contain asbestos were usually long, thin timber boards. They were used as weatherboard to clad houses. The boards overlapped horizontally.

Sheets that contain asbestos are found as the base and around fireplaces. They are also found around wood fire heaters, around gas heaters and also as the wick in kerosene heaters.

Asbestos sheets were used as formwork for garden beds and fences. Broken pieces were often buried in gardens. Moulded asbestos was used in garden accessories.

Paints containing asbestos look the same as paints without asbestos and can be friable. Be asbestos aware. Find out where they were used.

Plaster containing asbestos was also mixed with other materials to make low-density fibre boards used in Australian homes and buildings before 1990.
