Electrical and powerboxes

Paints containing asbestos look the same as paints without asbestos and can be friable. Be asbestos aware. Find out where they were used.

Sealants used like caulking – to prevent the transmission of dust, sound and heat – may contain asbestos.

Cast aluminium choke boxes may contain asbestos rope inside, not visible when the box is closed. Street light choke boxes may be painted, or have a metallic silver colour.

Welding electrodes are metal wires with baked-on chemical coatings. They used to be coated with asbestos. 

Woven insulation, yarn, cloth and webbing that contains asbestos is soft, and white to grey. It was used as fireproof insulation  for asbestos containing clothing like aprons and gloves.
